Biography
Leonidas Miranda, MD, is a board certified general surgeon who has been practicing medicine for 34 years . He received his medical degree from the University of Guayaquil in Guayaquil, Ecuador and completed his residency in General Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Health System in Cleveland, Ohio. He then completed 5 successful years as an assistant professor of Surgery at Texas Tech University before coming to Houston in 2009. Dr. Miranda is also a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
He specializes in a wide variety of procedures, including hernias, gallbladder disease, gastrointestinal problems, tumors of the skin/soft tissues, robotic surgery and placement of venous access ports for chemotherapy. In addition to general surgery, he has a clinical expertise and special focus in the management of benign and malignant breast diseases.
Dr. Miranda is greatly involved in all aspects of managing surgical procedures – focusing on the management of his patients from the preoperative visit, to the maintenance of pain control and nutrition postoperatively. He is a compassionate physician who constantly coordinates with referring physicians and specialists, including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and plastic surgeons to ensure the utmost care for his patients.
He provides safe and modern techniques for his patients by using state of the art surgical breast procedures, such as breast conservation with oncoplastic surgery and lymphedema prevention techniques for the surgical treatment of breast cancer. Additionally, Dr. Miranda has special training in wound care, which allows him to be very meticulous when it comes to plastic surgery techniques for skin closure resulting in minimal or no visible scars.
Dr. Miranda grew up in Ecuador as the oldest child of four and comes from a family with many physicians. As a child, he was inspired by his family and his own calling to help people, so he decided to pursue a career in medicine. In fact, he graduated top of his medical school class and was motivated to continue his dream of becoming a surgeon here in the United States. When he isn’t at work, he loves spending time with his wife, daughter, and playful miniature poodle. He also enjoys engaging in one of his many hobbies, such as playing the piano, jogging, and reading about the latest updates in the car industry.
Dr. Miranda is fluent in Spanish and is accepting new patients.
